After spending two semesters at New Rochelle University, she began her career just before her 18th birthday as a reporter for Hearst Group New York Evening magazine. In 1938, she began her column โThe Voice of Broadway,โ which eventually made its way to over 140 newspapers. In 1950, she became a regular on the What's My Line? Game show, continuing in that role until her death. Kilgallen's categories primarily display business news and gossip, but are also involved in other topics, such as politics and organized crime. She wrote front page articles on the Sam Sheppard trial and then on the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
